Anti-Corruption Unit Responds to Reports of Evictions from Takeo Construction Site

Takeo: The Anti-Corruption Unit says it is investigating reports that people have been forcibly evicted from land in Takeo Province’s Prey Kouch Bosta Village. The unit says it is acting on an anonymous complaint that some residents have been evicted, despite the fact that negotiations with the affected communities are continuing.

The Anti-Corruption Unit says it has established that the governor of Takeo’s Tram Kak District, Kao Vaksel, did not act as claimed in the complaint and is working with local farmers in an effort to resolve the land dispute. The dispute dates back to 2017, when the Office of the Council of Ministers revoked all previous occupations and required the Takeo Provincial Administration and relevant departments to provide new land titles to residents. In the majority of cases, this has been done.

The unit says there are some

legal and technical issues outstanding with occupants who did not accept the new land titles. It says it has now asked the Takeo Provincial Authority to expedite settlement of the remaining land disputes as soon as possible in order to issue title deeds to all plots of land.

The Anti-Corruption Unit says it continues to monitor this case and will take legal action in case of any corruption on behalf of officials.
